Google Ads & Maps for Electricians

Google Ads for electricians. More panel upgrades and service calls from qualified homeowners.

Current client: Ryan Reilly Electrical. I manage their ads and built their website.

Licensed electrical work pays well, and your ads should bring in the jobs that prove it: panel upgrades, EV chargers, rewires and service calls from homeowners who are ready to book. Not apprentices looking for work, and not DIYers.

Real ads from a North County electrician

Your next service call starts with an ad like this

Four ad formats from the live campaign I built for Ryan Reilly Electrical in Oceanside, pulled from the Google Ads preview. Google tests each one and puts more of the budget behind the formats that bring in calls.

Search ad with WhatsApp

Every format gives a homeowner a quick way to reach the electrician directly: call, send a WhatsApp message, get directions or request a free estimate.

The Triple Stack

Your business, three times on page one. Same search, same moment.

When Google Ads and an optimized Google Business Profile run together, you can show up three times for the same search: a sponsored Search ad at the top, a sponsored pin in Google Maps, and your organic listing in the Map Pack.

The example below is a real search for one of my clients, a licensed stucco contractor in San Diego. The trade is different, but the setup is exactly the same, and it's what I build for electricians too.

How Google Maps rankings work
A real Google search for a licensed stucco contractor client: all three spots. Same setup for electricians. Click to see the full results page.

I build websites for electricians

Watch the video. Your website could do this too.

If you're an electrician who needs a new website, this is what yours could do. This is Ryan Reilly Electrical's site on a phone. On the EV charger page, tapping Text opens a message that's already written: “Hi Ryan, I'd like a free estimate on an EV charger installation.” On the lighting page, it changes to match.

Already have a website? I'll build you a new one, made to turn ad clicks into calls and texts.

Every call, text and form is tracked as a conversion in Google Ads, ChatGPT Ads and Bing, so you know exactly which ads are booking jobs.

More ways to get calls

Google Ads first. ChatGPT and Bing when they fit.

Google Ads is where most electricians should start. When it makes sense for your market, the same leads can come from two more places.

ChatGPT Ads

Homeowners now ask ChatGPT who to hire. Your ad can show up right in the answer. Ryan runs ChatGPT Ads alongside Google Ads.

Why it's different

What works for electricians

Block the job seekers

“Electrician jobs,” “apprentice,” “electrician salary” and “how to become an electrician” get searched constantly. Without negatives you pay for every one.

Lead with your license

Homeowners worry about safety and permits. Your C-10 license, insurance and permits belong in the ad and on the page.

Call-first, not form-first

Electrical problems feel urgent. Ads with a call button, scheduled around when you can actually answer, convert best.

Google Guaranteed

Electricians qualify for Local Services Ads, the pay-per-lead ads at the very top. I set them up alongside Search.

What homeowners type

How customers search for electricians

These are the kinds of searches I build campaigns around, each with its own ads and its own list of searches to block.

  • electrician near me
  • panel upgrade cost
  • ev charger installation near me
  • 24 hour electrician
  • electrical contractor san diego
  • outlet not working electrician

The jobs I'll go after for you

  • Panel upgradesBig tickets that solar, EV and remodel projects keep creating.
  • EV charger installsA growing search with buyers who already decided to spend.
  • Rewires and old homesKnob-and-tube and aluminum wiring, often found during home sales.
  • Service and emergency callsHigh urgency, call-only ads during the hours you answer.
  • Lighting and remodel workRecessed lighting, kitchens and additions.
  • Commercial and tenant workSeparate campaigns so commercial searches don't mix with residential.
Where your next job comes from

Shared leads vs. customers who chose you

A panel upgrade or a rewire is a big decision for a homeowner, and safety is on their mind. Where they find you shapes whether they compare you on price or trust you with the job.

Yelp, Thumbtack, Angi, Houzz

Compared side by side

You're one of several

When a homeowner requests a panel upgrade on Angi, the same lead goes to several electricians at once. On Thumbtack, they usually contact a few electricians from a list. Either way, you're one of several quotes, and you may have paid for that lead whether you win the job or not.

Google Ads

Chosen and called

They picked you

Someone whose breaker keeps tripping or who just bought an EV searches, sees your ad with your C-10 license and reviews, and calls. They're looking for a licensed electrician they can trust, and they picked you.

ChatGPT

Recommended

The closest thing to a referral

Homeowners ask ChatGPT things like “do I need a permit for a panel upgrade, and who can do it near me?” When the answer names your company, you're the expert they were pointed to before they ever call.

For licensed trades, trust closes the job more often than the lowest bid does. A homeowner who chose you, or was told about you, already trusts you a little.

How it works

Three steps to ads that make the phone ring

  1. 1

    Your free video review

I record my screen and walk through where you stand: your Google Ads account if you have one, your Google Business Profile, a Local Falcon map of your rankings, and how you show up when someone asks ChatGPT. You watch it before we ever talk.

  2. 2

    Strategy call

Phone or Google Meet. We review what's working, where budget is being lost, and what I recommend changing. You leave with a clear plan whether you hire me or not.

  3. 3

    I build and manage

I build your campaigns from scratch or take over the ones you have. Month-to-month, no long-term contract, and you can reach me directly any time.

Francisco Meza · Founder, Planet Marketing · San Diego, CA

I've managed Google Ads and paid search for service businesses since 2006. Contractors, medical practices, law firms, private schools, home services: I've run campaigns for all of them.

When you hire Planet Marketing, your account is never passed to a junior account manager. I build your campaigns, I manage them every month, and I'm the one you call or text. If you're in San Diego or Southern California, I'm happy to meet in person.

Sometimes you just need someone you can trust.

I was struggling with trying to market my electrical contracting business. So when I was using ChatGPT to help me with some questions about Google Ads, an ad popped up for Planet Marketing. I clicked the link and connected with Francisco. This has been a game changer for me!! He’s built me a professional website. Developed professional campaigns on both Google Ads and ChatGPT. Best of all I have received more QUALIFIED LEADS that I can easily convert! Highly recommend working with Francisco!!

I've been working with Francisco & Planet Marketing for over 15 years and across multiple companies. Initially it was a company where his expertise in elevating our Craigslist & eBay posts helped us corner a highly competitive market. The next few times we worked together it was for different SEO/SEM/PPC needs and each time he out produced expectations. He's constantly been at the forefront each time the marketing landscape changes and with the roll out of ChatGPT & Gemini, he's there helping me once again gobble up market share. I highly recommend Francisco & Planet Marketing!

Francisco is a rare find. On the one hand, he has 20 years of experience, on the other, he has his feet firmly planted in the future. My meeting with him today was highly, highly productive. He has the kind of knowledge where he can show you where the systems weak points are, and how to work around them, all while being budget conscious. I think what makes him tick is when he beats the entrenched companies at their own game. I look forward to a long business arrangement with him.

Francisco at Planet Marketing was fantastic to work with! He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and quick to respond. He took the time to thoroughly analyze my marketing needs and clearly explain his services and the entire process. He also provided pricing right away, which I really appreciated. I’m still at the beginning of my search for marketing services, but Francisco has already made an excellent impression. He clearly knows his business and genuinely cares about providing great customer service. I highly recommend Francisco and Planet Marketing for all your marketing needs!

Questions

Questions electricians ask me

How much should an electrician spend on Google Ads?

Enough to give us real data. At $100 a month, Google sends a handful of clicks, and that's not enough to tell which searches turn into jobs. At around $1,000 a month, I can see which keywords bring panel upgrades and EV charger installs and which only bring price shoppers, then move money from the losers to the keywords that convert. That money goes to Google, not to me, and my fee is separate. I'll give you a realistic number for your area before you spend anything.

How much does Google Ads cost per click?

Here are real numbers from Google's Keyword Planner for San Diego (November 2026). To show at the top of the page, advertisers bid about $10 to $48 for “electrician near me” and $6 to $22 for “ev charger installation near me”. Searches about price, like “panel upgrade cost,” run $3 to $6. Those are Google's estimates, not what you have to pay. I set bids by hand, and I regularly get clicks for less than Google suggests. On a live electrician campaign I manage in North County San Diego, Google's first-page estimate is $12.61 for “ceiling fan installation” and $18.92 for “tesla charger installation.” In October 2026, those clicks cost an average of $4.83 and $4.96. Fill out the form and I'll pull the numbers for your neighborhood in San Diego and record a short video showing what those clicks cost there. I only target searches from people ready to hire, and I block DIY and job-seeker searches like “how to wire an outlet” and “electrician jobs”, so you don't pay for clicks that never turn into jobs.

Can you show my ads to homeowners before they search?

Yes. Google has a built-in audience called “Electrician Services”: people interested in hiring an electrician. On Search, I use it to bid more for those homeowners. With YouTube and display ads, I can reach them before they ever search. Whether that's worth it depends on how many of them Google can reach in your service area, and I check that in your free review.

This is a screenshot straight from Google Ads. Google says these people are in the market to hire an electrician.

Google Ads in-market audience: Electrician Services
Can you get me more panel upgrades specifically?

Yes. Panel upgrade and EV charger searches get their own campaigns, ads and landing pages, so I can push budget toward the jobs you want more of.

How quickly will I start getting calls?

Most well-built home service campaigns produce calls in the first 1–2 weeks. The first month is about learning which searches turn into jobs. By month two, call volume and cost per lead usually improve noticeably.

Is there a contract?

No. Everything is month-to-month. Google Ads takes 60–90 days to fully optimize, so I ask that you give it that long before judging, but you're never locked in.

Ready for more electrical calls?

Tell me about your business and what you need. I personally review every request. You'll hear from me, not an automated reply.
