There could be several reasons why your seller ratings have not been showing in Google. It’s important for you to understand and resolve these problems that cause seller ratings not to appear. That’s because seller ratings are an important way through which you can boost the visibility for your products and services in Google Shopping and in Google Ads. So, why do people sometimes encounter challenges having seller ratings appear in Google?
Reasons Why your Seller Ratings May be Missing
If your seller ratings are not showing, then it may be because you are not getting 100 reviews per year, which is the required yearly average for seller ratings. It may also be because you have 100 ratings but do not have 100 comments. Your seller ratings will also not show should you have less than a 3.5 star rating. You may also encounter issues with your seller ratings if your XML feed is broken. And here is another obvious reason why seller ratings may not show; perhaps you have not taken steps to get star ratings in Google Shopping and in Google Ads!
How to check if you are getting seller ratings
So, how do you check if you are getting Seller Rating? Well, doing so is simple enough. All that you need to do is the following;

Your Seller Ratings are not showing because you are not getting an average of 100 reviews a year
If you have read my article on how to get star ratings, you will have understood that reviews are an important source for the data that Google uses to assign star ratings to sellers and products in Google Shopping and in Google Ads. Now, Google states that you need to have 100 unique reviews to get Seller Ratings. So, if you have been getting less than that, you need to seriously up your game! Make sure that you have made it as simple as is possible for people to give you feedback!
You need 100 reviews in EACH country in which you wish your Seller Ratings to Appear
I often get questions from people who argue that their seller ratings are not showing, despite the fact that they have more than 100 annual reviews. Upon checking, it usually turns out that these reviews are not from the same country! Look people, your seller ratings are not going to show if your reviews are all over the place. How it works is like this; your need an average of 100 reviews per year FROM EACH of the countries in which you operate in order for your ratings to appear. Now, if you get 100 ratings in South Africa, 120 in the U.K and 98 in the U.S, your Seller Ratings will only show in South Africa and in the U.K! They will not show in the U.S!
All reviews need to be accompanied by comments
This is another thing that you may not be aware of. In order for your ratings to be valid, they need to be accompanied by comments. So, that’s 100 comments for each of the 100 reviews that are needed. Simply asking people to give you a five star review without an accompanying comment will not work!
This is where the power of third party review aggregators, such as Shopper Approved, becomes apparent. They will ask people not only to rate your company, but also to leave comments. These reviews and comments are then syndicated to Google, thus ensuring that your Seller Ratings show in Google.
Your seller ratings are not showing because you have an overall rating of less than 3.5 stars
Google will only show Seller Ratings if you have a rating of 3.5 stars and above. To be frank, if you have been getting 1, 2 or 3 star ratings, then you probably suck! You need to seriously think about going back to the drawing board to ensure that you iron out the issues that may be angering your customers! Otherwise you should be grateful that Google does not show ratings that are below 3.5 stars!
Your XML feed is broken
Third party review aggregators (if you have signed up) upload the XML feed containing your company’s ratings information to Google as part of the reviews syndication process. Now, it sometimes happens that this XML feed gets broken, which means that it cannot be uploaded to Google. The result is that you will not get Seller Ratings in Google PLAs and in Google Shopping. Admittedly, this scenario is rather rare, but it is something that I have encountered once in a while!
You have not signed up to have your reviews and ratings syndicated to Google
This is a rather obvious reason why most people do not get seller ratings. You need to sign up to have your reviews syndicated to Google in order to get Seller Ratings. You also get Seller Ratings if you sign up for Google Shopping Reviews. In other words, Seller Ratings will not appear automatically for your company! In order to get them, you need to first sign up, either with a third party company, or with Google Reviews.
I have done everything right, but my Seller Ratings are still missing
This is something that happens once in a while. Perhaps you have been getting more than 100 online reviews from the same country and these reviews have all been accompanied by valid comments. And you have an average rating of more than 3.5 stars. So, why are your seller ratings not showing? Well, I am not going to be able to provide the answer here. What you need to do, in any case, is get in touch with the third party review syndication company with which you have signed. It’s their job to make sure that you are getting Seller Ratings and if you have been doing everything right, then they need to do the detective work to find solutions to your issue!
Can I transfer my reviews from one company to another?
This is another question that I get from people! Let’s assume that you have discovered that your third party review company sucks! Is it possible for you to transfer all the reviews that you have gotten to another company?
The answer to this is, YES! You do not actually need to remain with a company that is not up to scratch when it comes to online reviews. And you will not lose any of your reviews by transferring to another company!
