Setting up an Ad Account
Before Advertising on Facebook, you first need to have an Ad Account. If you already have one, you can skip this step. We are not going to dwell much on this step. Setting up an Ad Account is a simple matter and we are not going to dwell on that here. When done, click on the “Continue,” button to move to the next step.
Defining your audience: The Ad Set
Properly defining your Audience is important in Facebook Advertising. There are several questions that you need to ask yourself beforehand in this regard, including where the people who you are targeting are based and what their genders and age ranges are. You can think of an Ad Set as the engine that drives the distribution of your Ad.
Your Facebook Ads can be targeted at as wide a Geographic area as you wish. However, local businesses need to narrow down the focus to their areas of operation. This is the only way through which they can reach out to the kind of audience that really matters. For our example, we are going to target people in San Diego, California.
Although it is conceivable that a Family Law Attorney would have clients across state lines, narrowing down on the area of focus allows us to really deliver our Facebook Ads where they are likely to yield the maximum amount of results.
Gender, Age and Languages
You can also choose to further refine your target audience based on Gender. For this example, we are, however, going to go with both men and women.
Although not unheard of, it is rather unlikely that an 18 year old would ever need the services of a Family Law Attorney. The age setting allows you to really focus on the people who are most likely to react positively to your Ads.
The languages setting is for those that need to have your Facebook Ads delivered only to people who speak a certain language.
Detailed Targeting: Narrow down on your target audience
This section allows you to further zoom in on the people who you wish to target with your Facebook Ads. You can do this using demographics, interests and behaviors. As an example, you can choose to have your ads delivered to people who listen to a particular genre of music, or to those who only watch a particular type of movie.
The above screenshot shows that we, for our example, have targeted people who have listed their relationship status on Facebook as “Separated.” We have also targeted people who have shown an interest in Alimony, Child support and parental responsibility. These, and many other indices, are some in which a Family Law Attorney would likely be interested in.
Budget and Schedule
The amount that you spend on your Facebook Ads has a direct bearing on the results that you can expect to get. That is not to say, however, that you should begin by setting your budget very high. The budgeting section is one of the most difficult, as far as creating Facebook Ads is concerned, and you need to strike a balance between the amount that you spend on a daily basis and the results that you get at the end of the day.
